The Jason Roney Party of Port Charlotte Honda VW service department. The day was
an absolute riot. We had a lot of trouble anchoring in a cross wind, wave action in the
beginning, but soon forgot about location as the day began to unfold. This group was
a great group of anglers, but the outstanding incident of the day was when Dean Harris,
fishing for Mangrove Snapper hooked a Trophy Kingfish. We didn't know it at first, but
thought it was a Little Tuny, This was one of the most aweful fights I have ever seen. How
he managed to land this 40+ pound angry King on a 2/0 hook, 20 pound mono leader, and
the reel, a little Shimano 3500 Baitrunner, I don't know. He caught it on a small piece of
cut bait, and the fight lasted somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes. When he brought
this big female to the gaff, the line looked like spaghetti. Several times the enraged female
predator almost cleaned the reel out, the runs were screaming torrents that set everyone on
the boat in awe.
We also landed two other Kings, 16 Mangrove Snapper, 4 Little Tuny, 1 Red Grouper, 1 Cobia,
2 Blacknose Shark, 2 Spanish Mackeral, and several Banded Rudderfish. We hope you all
had as much fun fishing with us as we had with you. Thank you for a great day on the Gulf
of Mexico. We hope to see you all again soon.
