FLORIDA SHARK are always an excitable subject, and especially so in Florida, and the West Cost of Florida, where many shark come to breed and deliver their young. There are shark attacks in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Although, most do not die from their bites, it seems to be very scary for most. We have caught them for a great number of years, been bitten a couple of times, but no great bodily harm. Mostly we have been bitten by smaller ones that we didn't take seriously, but they made believers of us. The answer for most folk is, do not swim by yourself on deserted beaches. The shark are around on the main beaches, but do not come in because of the larger numbers of people make them easy to recognize as people, not their traditional food. However, we are in somewhat of a different position, we fish for them while fishing for other species also. They are an exausting fight, and will get your adrenoline running. They are also very good table fare. Many of these species, are very excellent in fact. We have a limited number of species running through our waters on the Gulf Coast however. The main ones include Bull, Great Hammerhead, Blacktip, Spinner, Nurse, Blacknose, Dogtooth, and a Tiger, Sand Tiger, or Maco once in awhile. The meat must be cared for in special ways to make the meat sweet and desireable. Our mates handle this with excellence.
The Tampa Bay area from Clearwater to Sarasota has some species of shark in the waters most of the year. Fishing Trophy Shark is something better left to professionals who have done it for a long time. Although, most would call it Deep Sea Fishing, s lot of it is done inshore. But it certainly is Sportfishing, all you can handle, and then some. We have many pictures of Shark caught here in Bradenton, Florida on Happy Hooker One Charters, on our web site. We have guided folk for many years, and have been captured and sold on videos such as Discovery Channels "The Great Shark Hunt". We are also preparing a book on Shark for fishermen, handlers, and anyone who wants to safely handle different Shark. You can never be too cautious.

Bent rods and screaming reels, see ya on the water.
