BRADENTON - OFFSHORE & INSHORE
(September-October, 2002)
OFFSHORE Big, fat, lovely Mangrove Snapper have made our day
on occasion this September. They have all come in to spawn, and we have been enjoying the bite. The Red Grouper have been pretty good in September
also, but many days we seem to have a lot of undersized ones. Of course about one out of ten have been keepers, and quite a few have been 28
to 30 inchers. We can't complain much. The Kings have been great, although it's out of season, we still catch a few every week, and every one is
a smoker, some huge.
Right now we are waiting for the storms to break, which should happen in about two or three days. We are right on the edge of the Fall Kingfish season,
and we have got the gitters, we can't hardly wait for those big boys to tear up the top of the water. The storms have cooled the water a little but the
first cold front that passes by, may bring our waters down to the 78 degrees we need to see the big kings in great numbers for the Fall and Winter. Get
ready and make your reservations now, cause I've got a feeling the way things are going, we are going to have a great season. Good luck to all
of you, and we hope to see you all soon.
Oh, by the way, we are still seeing Sailfish jumping and attacking small bait pods close in, so don't be afraid to troll or freeline for them, there
have been some pretty big ones spotted lately, I mean 7 to 9 footers, which is a real decent fight on light tackle. But be sure to release them
unharmed if possible.
Bent rods and screaming reels, see ya on the water.
