BRADENTON - OFFSHORE & INSHORE
(May-June, 2002)
OFFSHORE Finally about six weeks late, our kingfish are normal size. Although we are catching quite a lot of "Smoker" Kings, and "Trophy Kings, we have not seen any over fifty pounds yet. The season, being 6 weeks off, should bring us some late hogs in the fifty to sixty pound size. So those of you fishing the late season may be pleasantly supprised to find one of these huge lunks on your line. We are always looking for that greater fight, and usually find it. May and June long trips have been great with some Grouper, but huge Amberjack have been straining our tired bodies, and puting a hurt on our equipment lately. If your body can stand it, just book a long trip (10 hour), and you will get a challenging pull on your line. Now getting back to the inshore, it is astounding, but the clean, clear water has brought in Dolphin, and Sailfish to shallow water. We brought in Dolphin from the 50 foot water level the other day. We also had a Sailfish almost run into the side of the boat, with large fish jumping from the water to get out of his way, and Bal-e-hoo jumping right in front of his bill, Flyingfish almost rammed the side of the boat, and we could have reached out and touched him when he stopped right at the starboard stern quarter of the boat putting on a great show for us, it was breathtakingly beautiful. Things like this makes the long hours worth it. Cobia are usually few and far between after the water heats up to 80 degrees offshore, They are usually found on the flats or closer inshore during this season, or offshore on the deep wrecks, but we are catching a few large ones (35 to 45 pound) on intermediate reefs. The Tarpon have also been late, but they are here and eating hearty right now. The season is here in great fassion, and we invite you to join us in the fun.
Bent rods and screaming reels, see ya on the water.
